Job Search

Job Search

I have recently started looking for a job or jobs for the summer and possibly during school next semester. I applied at several places for a security position or also known as a bouncer. I even applied at Coyote ugly along with several clubs and bars downtown OKC. I filled out all the info and the references, then at the bottom of the resume for Coyote Ugly the last question was, “ Tell us why you think you should be a coyote….” As I sat there and thought about the question I thought of what they would want to hear so I could get the job. Would then want me to impress them by stating I was a Pre-med major or would they want me to say how big and strong I was? Or both or neither? My friend put down the same old bull about being hard working, and high intensity, with leadership skills, but doesn’t everyone put that? I didn’t come up with anything brilliant at the time so I just put that same bull everyone does. But after I left, it made me think if I would have really put something memorable and thought provoking would that have stuck in the mind of whoever it was reading it and deciding who got the job? Would it have helped me or would he have just overlooked it as me trying to hard because I wasn’t really experienced?

I haven’t received a call yet but it was only yesterday, so the “recently” I stated before was really, really recently. I just wonder if it would have changed anything or did it really matter what I put. I guess there are always other jobs and that’s why we applied everywhere hoping one would hire us or better maybe more than one. I was just amazed of how something so ordinary could be so thought provoking when you really analyze it. We make choices every second of the day practically, but how often do you think about how and why you made that choice while also thinking about what could happen because of that one choice. I think if everyone really did this with every choice that nothing would ever get done or it would take a really long time, but besides that how many bad choices would have been changed if the person actually thought about their choice. Everything in the world happens because of choice, the one gift god gave all me, CHOICE!

Ethos: The Adventure

According to the Free Dictionary by Farlax, Ethos is: The disposition, character, or fundamental values peculiar to a specific person, people, culture, or movement. I see ethos as a very vague word. It can cover such a large amount of things, from a person’s opinion to how they live there lives. I see much of my opinions in my writing as well as many of my morals without me really knowing that they are influencing my writing. I believe each person is more than just a name and a face, but an entire world within a world. If you think of how many people are on the planet and that each person views the world in there own way, then that means there are over 6 billion different worlds coexisting at once. Just trying to wrap your mind around that concept is inconceivable and really impossible. I believe that the human mind does not have the capability to see the world as God does. In the assignment, a day without technology (which I didn’t do) all that was asked was to go a day without your phone, computer, and the internet basically. This would have a fairly simple assignment, but slightly irritating. But it wasn’t something life changing. I think if you truly want to see outside the box, try to imagine the world from just the people in your classrooms view. I tried to do this and was totally mind boggled. How do they see the world around us? Now once you have attempted this and most likely failed like I did, try to see from there point of view with there morals while you read there writing. If you can successfully do this, it will open your eyes to a whole new world. It will also in my opinion exponentially improve your criticism of there papers and your own. When you write a paper or blog, you have to come out of your body and see how someone that doesn’t know you at all will read and understand your paper. I believe that great writers such as Poe and twain, did not master this, but understood it more than others. I believe that this talent is the key part in determining whether you as an individual will be an average writer or a great one.

The ability to see life and the world outside of just your own view is breathtaking. Just the sheer vastness of the idea is crazy. For some it is something unknown. Psychologists all over the world have one question they are trying to answer, “How does the human mind work and how does it view the world around us?” Yet, even with thousands of great minds working to answer this one simple question, there is still no answer, only hypotheses.

To answer the question can I see a difference in my writing since the first day of class, yes I can. I have changed my view of the world. I saw it as one huge world that I could explore and everyone else was just there on their own voyage, but now I see that there is not one world but many that I myself travel through and affect as I live my everyday life. I see all these worlds interconnected so that one thing I do affects everything else, kind of like a ripple in a pond.

As to if my writing was hanging on a wall next to a Picasso, I would not see it as if I was proud or not but how my world differs from his. What in his world influenced him, what people in his world affected him, and how did his world affect the worlds around him? I see this is a painting, yes, but the fact that it is a painting is just a mere side fact. The true impact this “painting” shows me is just a peek into the world of this man I know nothing about, except for what he showed me in this glimpse of his world, this painting. Each time I sit down to write something whether it be a blog or a novel, I try and see how it might affect someone else’s life without me ever knowing. Will it better them or will it hurt them? Pride is a feeling that is only chemicals in the body being released in a certain sequence. Since I have started this class my eyes have changed and now see my world and the worlds around me which I affect and influence on a daily basis, and how I’m influencing them. Am I the good guy or am I the bad guy in the worlds around me? What are you?
Obama: To send more or withdraw?

It is being talked about that Gen. Stanley McChrystal is asking Obama for an additional 10,000- to 40,000 troops. Yet, Obama promised the opposite during his presidency campaign stating to “bring home the troops”. This is a critical decision in Obama’s presidency. If he sends more troops he breaks his promise, if he doesn’t then the forces that are already over there are left under equipped for fighting the war. So is there a choice of totally withdrawing all troops from the war in the Middle East? If we withdraw what kind of message does that send to the terrorist, okay we give up you win? If so, how long will it be before another 9/11? Or do we stick with it and finish the mission we started and bring hell on earth to the terrorists until they can no longer harm anyone, if that is possible? I believe there will always be radicalisms as long as there is religion. I don’t know if there is a winner to this war, this madness. Can we really stop or kill everyone that could or would possibly harm us? Or along the way do we just cause more people to rally to there cause increasing their numbers? All these questions, must be carefully thought out and answered before Obama can make his decision on whether to send troops or not. I believe totally in the war against evil, against terrorists, but I’m not sure if we are going at it in the right way. Can hate and religion be overcome by death and destruction? I believe there is only one individual/being that can win this war and it is not Obama or Gen. Stanley McChrystal, its God! Only he has the power to change the hearts of men for good.

As I stated before, there will always be radicalism as long as there is religion. I believe that only one religion can defeat another. No amount of firepower or troops can stop an entire religion. Now do I believe that this war can be won? Yes I do, but not with a gun or bomb, but with the word of God. I believe in why we are fighting this war, but I do not see either side winning, and do not agree with the statement, if true, posted by Pierre Tristam. There is no winner of a war fought over religion, there are only losers and death on both sides. We can nuke all of the middle east killing every terrorist, but that will only create new terrorists, and they can blow up every building in New York, but that will only make the U.S. send more and more troops. Only death will come from this battle, there will be no winner. I believe in war there are no winners, there are only losers and the side that loses the most loses the war. Then after the fighting is over both sides mourn their loss and everyone wishes the war had never happened. We won WWI and WWII, yet in this picture I see brave men who fought and died for an ideal, but I see no winners.

I'm Thug, Are You??

Lil’ Wayne

When I see a celebrity go to prison or get arrested it’s normally a shock or at least somewhat of a surprise, but when it comes to rappers I feel like that’s what they are going for. I hear in tons of rap songs about how they are smoking that greenery, and riding around always being strapped.

It’s almost like that if you haven’t been in prison or in someway a criminal you’re not a real rapper and you “ain’t thug”. Now I see Lil’ Wayne going to prison and think is this just a publicity stunt? I foresee Lil’ Wayne coming out after his “prison” sentence, coming out with a brand new album as soon as he is released that will make this huge deal about how he is so thug and how prison couldn’t handle the Wayne!

Now I do have to admit that if Lil’ Wayne had came from a rich white neighborhood and was raised in a private school that I would probably not think that he was very “hood”. I think that there is a sense that if you don’t commit a crime before you become a rapper or if you weren’t a gangsta and rose in a bad part if town that you can’t be a rapper. I know this doesn’t seem like a huge deal that it’s just part of show biz and all part of the show, but what kind of message does it send it young teens that look up to rappers suck as Lil’ Wayne of Birdman. I still have the view that each and every person makes their own decisions no matter what influences they have, but I do think that it would make the decision a lot easier to make without all the negative influence from the media.

If you have heard any of the new songs off of his new album or kind of new album “No Ceilings” at the beginning or each song you can clearly hear him light up a blunt of that ganja and take a hit while he starts rapping or talking. Now I have nothing against people that smoke marijuana, but it just goes along with the whole image of being gansta and telling the law you don’t have power over me. I don’t follow every law, I know I see the speed limit as more of a guideline than a law, and really just use it as a crutch so I know how fast I need to go to past the slow grandma in front of me, but I don’t do it because I think its cool, I do it because I am always in a hurry and don’t have the patience of a 82 year old woman and you don’t see me saying how thug am I for it. (Listen for him lighting the blunt and then taking a hit at the 10 second mark on the video)

I know that being thug is part of black culture or at least part of hip hop and rap culture, but it still doesn’t send the right message to young teens, but to be honest what in the show biz or the record industry, other than Christian music, does send a good message? I just hope that teens can understand the difference between what is cool for rappers and creating the image they want and what is really cool. As I said before, it is for each and every individual to decide for themselves and if they are anything like me, they will make their own damn mind up whether other people like it or not.
